Arthur returns, but doesn't know he is THE Arthur because he's a modern teenager. Gets dragged back in time. His slutty girlfriend and his only-not-a-slut-because-she-hasn't-had-the-opportunity sister, who hate each other's guts and have the emotional maturity of 12-year olds - maybe - and who are apparently also newer versions of characters in the original story (although we don't find out in this book who the sister is supposed to be) go in search of him. Sister falls so madly in love with a guy after knowing him for a couple of days that she can't bear to be separated from him for more than a couple of hours. Lots of fighting with little character development and an ending with a number of eye-rolling "Yeah, right - how would he have known the guys in cloaks were allies?" moments.

The author writes well - the reason the story gets two stars instead of one is because except for a few typos, it does not have grammatical errors and it has decent word choice and good sentence structure. From that angle, it is a decent read. However, the main characters are annoying and do not experience any kind of character growth or become any more likable by the end of the story. Add the mild plot inconsistencies and the sexual obsession of the main character, and even though I have a natural curiosity to know what eventually happens, I have no desire to suffer through the second and third books of the trilogy.

"Searching For Arthur" is an excellent read. It was funny and intense at the same time. The main character, Natasha, had a sarcastic sense of humor perfect for the YA crowd. The jokes flowed effortlessly and made me laugh out loud several times. Mrs. Hosie certainly has talent for the humorous. No one can be bored reading this book!

What pleased me the most was the author's ability to switch between light, funny scenes and very intense ones, packed with action and emotion.

I enjoyed this read very much and wish only that, at the end, Natasha had shown some growth as a character and that we had gotten a better sense of Bedivere's personality. He is the handsome knight with a romantic interest in Natasha, but beyond that it is hard to tell more. However, I suspect the next book will offer us a better glance of him. If you’re looking for a fun, yet emotional ride, this is your book.
This book is self-contained. There is no cliffhanger. There are scenes of consensual pre-sex, and sex, but none are graphic. This book is appropriate for mid-teens and older.

Natasha's family is troubled. Her father works as a diplomat, is hardly ever home, and relocates the family nearly yearly. Her mother is distant, except when something catches her attention, she and her brother Arthur are close in age and fight as siblings do, and Arthur's girlfriend, nicknamed "Slurpy" by Natasha, hates her. Natasha's mother lives in fear of terrorists, and when the father is needed in London she requires the family live in Wales, in a house called Avalon Cottage.

Running from her mother, Natasha falls into a sinkhole in the woods behind the cottage, where she is confronted by a group of seemingly dead and scary statues. When Arthur is kidnapped, she and Slurpy wind up in the age of Camelot looking for him

This is an interesting take on Arthurian mythology and reincarnation. Many of the usual characters, Nimue, Mordred, various knights of the Round Table, appear to support or prevent teenaged Arthur from regaining his place as King. It isn't immediately explained that the knights are also teens, making Natasha's sudden infatuation with one of them uncomfortable. Some of the characters are self aware, and others feel they recognize other people and situations without knowing how or why.

The story is narrated by Natasha. Her character is a little rough. Sometimes she reads as a one-step-forward-two-steps-back personality; alternatively wanting to be protected and literally kicking a knight in the balls when she doesn't get what she wants. Her reaction to how she is expected to dress and behave as a Lady provides much of the humor.

This reader feels the story is a bit choppy. Sometimes the characters make decisions or act without explanation or background; a hiccup in the story that disturbs the story flow. Arthur's ability to fight off the despot King and a horde of Saxons using Excaliber and lessons from his martial arts classes is frankly unbelievable; his fighting is not described, so perhaps he learned more than expected in those classes. Characters at the end appear without explanation; a particularly frustrating plot device.

This is a good start to a new interpretation of the Arthurian legend. The character of Natasha is engaging, and her reaction to circumstances she finds herself in can often be attributed to her age. The next two books in the trilogy are available. This reader hopes the author's skills grow as the story continues.
